Announcement for Spring 2013 Internship Asian/ Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project
The Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (DVRP) is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1995 in response to the lack of linguistically and culturally appropriate services for Asian/Pacific Islander (A/PI)survivors of domestic violence in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. DVRP's mission is to address and prevent domestic violence in A/PI communities in the DC area. We believe in providing culturally appropriate tools, support, and resources for survivors to make their own life choices. DVRP is a non-hierarchical organization structured around mutual respect, shared responsibility, trust and equality, and supported by a collaborative style of leadership.

Description of Internship
 Do you want to be an influential voice in your community? Are you interested in raising awareness about domestic violence? DVRP is currently searching for a summer intern for the Community Outreach Program and the Training &Technical Assistance Program. The Outreach and Training intern will report to the Interim Executive Director. The Community Outreach Program is devoted to increasing awareness about the dynamics and impact of domestic violence in A/PI communities. DVRP’s Training& Technical Assistance Program works with service providers to ensure the provision of culturally competent services to A/PI survivors. Tasks include:

·        - Write and update content for DVRP’s website and social media platforms(Facebook, Twitter)
·        - Support DVRP’s Community Ambassadors in providing trainings and planning events
·        - Attend workshops and coalition meetings to address issues affecting the A/PI community
·        - Oversee the production, translation and distribution of materials about domestic violence at A/PI and domestic violence organizations
·         - Draft and send e-mails to DVRP’s supporters and donors
·         - Prepare bi-weekly newsletter and organizational updates
·         - Update training and donor databases on a regular basis
·        -  Assist with grant-seeking research and writing
·         - Other related duties in the daily operations of the organization, as assigned

Note:This is an unpaid internship.


Time Commitment:
This internship begins in mid-late May 2013 until mid-August, although start dates can be somewhat flexible. Interns should have availability during DVRP’s business hours (Mondays-Fridays 10am-6pm). Interns are required to commit to at least 20-25 hours per week.

Advocates Program
Recognizing that A/PI survivors of domestic violence have a variety of needs in order to attain safety for themselves and their children, the DVRP Advocates Program provides direct assistance on an individual level, with special consideration for cultural and linguistic needs. Tasks include:
·         Conducting intakes and providing referral information to survivors
·         Assisting with curriculum and program development for DVRP’s survivor workshops
·         Administering evaluation surveys
·         Coordinating and locating resources for Advocates Training
·         Recruiting and assisting with the training agenda for the Advocates Training
·         Updating organizational information and resource lists for the Advocates Program
·         Help plan and attend Advocates meetings (one Saturday every month)
·         Other relevant duties, as assigned

Note:This is an unpaid internship.

Time Commitment:
This internship lasts from late May/early June 2013 until August 2013, but dates can be somewhat flexible. Interns should have availability during DVRP’s business hours (Mondays-Fridays 10am-6pm), and some weekend hours as needed. Interns are required to commit to at least 20-25 hours per week.
