Yesterday, we took the children down to The Promontory @ Marina Bay for the Kite Festival by NTUC Income and act3 International. It was a huge crowd! We saw families bringing their own mats and food for picnic and many brought their own kites or purchase one on the spot.

It is a sunny afternoon and there are so many kites of different colours, shapes and sizes in the clear, blue sky.

One can really get lost in this crowd. Although there are free goodie bags, kites and balloons, plus kite-making workshops, it is always accompany with a super long queue everywhere. You really need to be patient to wait half hour or more just to get to your turn.

The live performances with music and songs fills the air and it is just as enjoyable to immerse in the crowd looking at the kites.

The main highlight is the showcase of the bigger kites flew by the kite masters. There was suppose to be a candy drop from the big kites so that the children can grab the candies. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough wind and probably due to the limited space by the surrounding crowd, the kite masters had difficulty flying the kite high. Still it has been an eye opener and a great attempt.

Daddy queued at least half hour to get a balloon for Gladys. We may not get to fly our kites this time, but it has been a very pretty sight to see.

We promised to bring Gladys to fly kite during the June holidays. Unfortunately due to the persistent heavy rains and incooperative weather, it was postponed again and again. We finally took her to Anchorvale last Sunday for some kite flying. It is one of the rare moments where there have been no rains for 2 days and the field is relatively dry.

Apart from kite lovers, there are many families with their children running around, playing ball and cycling in the field. A couple are sitting on their mats/mini chairs while enjoying and relaxing themselves looking at their kites in the sky.

We tried to fly our kite too... but there is just not enough wind to fly it high that evening! Hubby tried again and again and only managed to get it up for awhile. What a shame! Well, at least the kids had some fun running around. We'll try our luck next time. ^_^

It is still a pleasure looking at the other pretty kites and also doing some walking around the big field together. The children complained they are tired without even completing half a round! Hahaha

The children went kite flying with their new Eagle Kite at the open field opposite Anchorvale Community Centre. It has become a hot spot for kite flyers due to the Big field and strong winds. You can always spot many kites from afar... and in the night, it is also beautifully lighted.

Denver & Gladys are always fighting for a chance to fly the kite. Daddy has to tell them to wait for their turns.

There are so many beautiful and colourful kites with all kinds of shapes and sizes... Some have long tails, some are really BIG and some have pretty LED lights that will light up the night sky.

Where is my kite?

The joy of kite flying for us is seeing our kite HIGH UP in the sky and not crashing down on us. :) Also, seeing the other pretty kites around us. We ended our kite flying session earlier as Gladys somehow ended up entangling the line pretty badly and Daddy & Mommy have to spent half an hour to get it fixed. -__- Nevertheless, the children get to have fun playing with it for awhile.

Recently there has been an increase interest of kite flying among the community. There are already many open fields being used as kite-flying spots around Sengkang, Punggol and Buangkok area where you start seeing many people flying their kites. The open field opposite the Anchorvale Community Centre is one of the "hot" favourite spot and during the weekends, you'll see long stretch of cars parking along the road sides and there are many beautiful kites high up in the sky. When my kids first saw them, they were amazed and really likes it. I will be posting our kite-flying experience @ Anchorvale next time :)

Today on our way back home, Denver mention again that he wanted to fly the kite. Actually I bought a small kite a few years back (before Gladys was born) but never had the chance to take the children out. (PS: Personally, I never fly a kite before.)

Anyway, we went home, grabbed our little kite and went to the open field downstairs. I love my neighbourhood as it's quiet and it's GREAT having a big field! During festive seasons, there will also be activities held near my home. :) Hubby started to fly the kite and it took him quite awhile before the kite finally went up, up and up in the sky which is starting to darken. Hubby manages to release all the string and by now, our kite is really high up in the sky! Denver, Gladys and I were soooo excited that we can't help shouting and clapping. :)

The kite crashes down to the ground once but it was FUN and all of us enjoyed it.

There are many location around Singapore where you can fly your kite. Neighbourhood areas around Sengkang, Punggol and Buangkok are very popular spots. Other location includes Woodlands, West coast, ECP and even Marina Barrage. :)
